Royal Heritage
Constructed around 1730–1750 CE, Mahal Khas is no ordinary monument. From these very halls, the rulers of Bharatpur administered a vast kingdom stretching across eastern Rajasthan, the sacred Braj region of western Uttar Pradesh, and parts of southern Haryana. Royal councils convened here. Military strategies were drawn here. Diplomacy that shaped the destiny of millions unfolded within these walls.
Lohagarh Fort
Lohagarh the "Iron Fort" earned its name the hard way. At a time when kingdoms across the subcontinent bowed to imperial powers, Bharatpur stood apart. Governed from Mahal Khas, it maintained political autonomy for decades, negotiated with and resisted both Mughal authority and British expansion. British military records themselves acknowledged Bharatpur as one of the most difficult states to subdue a testament to the vision and resolve born within this palace.
